The residency permit must be compulsorily updated in certain cases, in accordance with Italian law.

Every year we hear about the Flows Decree, an act issued by the government that allows thousands of skilled workers to enter Italy. The measure defines the maximum entry quotas for foreign citizens and refers to the three-year policy document based on immigration policy in the country. This year, unlike other years, in which the deadline for applying was first set at the end of June and then on 30 September, the possibility of requesting the conversion of a residence permit was extended to 31 December.

The number of migrants in the world has been growing steadily for about twenty years and reached a record 281 million in 2020: in recent years, family reunification has been the main channel of regular migration into the territory of the European Union.

In 2021, around three million first Residence Permits were issued in the European Union, an increase of about 30% as compared with 2020, determining a return to the pre-pandemic levels of 2019.

In Italy, the right to health is regulated by Article 32 of the Constitution, which establishes the health of the individual as a fundamental right and which must also be guaranteed to foreign citizens, regardless of their personal position with respect to the law on their entry and stay in our country. In addition to recognizing health as a purely individual right, the Italian Constitution establishes the interest of the community as superior to that of the individual, guaranteeing, in addition, free care for the indigent.

The debate over granting Italian citizenship to those born in Italy has raged for years. Unfortunately, with no success, there is no conclusion in sight among the various political parties. The  “Ius Soli” draft law proposal grants Italian citizenship to children born in our country. This has always been rejected in the Parliament, due to the clear opposition of a particular political party.
