Italy is a popular tourist destination and, every year, millions of people from all over the world come to our country. Most do so as tourists to admire the beautiful scenery, art, and culture. In fact, it should not be forgotten that our country is the first in the World Heritage Sites recognized by UNESCO, as many as fifty-eight.

Others, however, come to Italy to visit relatives and friends who live in the country. For foreign citizens who are not members of the European Union, it is necessary to apply for an entry visa for tourism, which can be issued by the Italian diplomatic or consular representation in the tourist’s country of residence.

Applying For An Entry Visa For Tourism

The tourist must apply for an Entry Visa at the Italian diplomatic or consular representation in the foreign national’s country of residence. The documentation to be submitted varies depending on the applicant’s country of origin, but generally consists of the following documents:

– Tourist visa application form, compiled and signed

– Passport valid at least for ninety days

– Declaration of Hospitality, issued by an Italian citizen or foreigner legally residing in Italy

– Documentation proving sufficient financial means for the stay in Italy (alternatively, a surety policy can be presented).

– Return or onward travel ticket

– Health insurance covering hospitalization and medical care expenses in Italy.

Declaration Of Hospitality

This is a document issued by an Italian citizen or foreigner legally residing in Italy, stating his or her willingness to offer hospitality to the tourist. This declaration must be made on a special form, available on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The form must be filled out in its entirety and signed by the declarant, who must attach a copy of his or her identity document or residence permit. Another mandatory document to be submitted is the documentation proving the availability of the property, either by submitting the property deed or the lease agreement.

The owner of the property or the tenant is obliged to notify the Public Safety Authority of the commencement of hospitality, within 48 hours by written notice.

Length Of Stay

The tourist entry visa allows a maximum stay in Italy of 90 days per 180 days, calculated from the first entry into our country. The visa can be used for single or multiple entry, depending on the applicant’s request.
