The Residence Permit for Family Reasons of a Spouse or Parent
The Residence Permit for family reasons must be requested within eight working days from the date of entry into Italy – which has taken place with a Visa for family reunification – at the Police Headquarters of reference, by sending the appropriate kit from the authorized post offices, containing all of the documents required by law and the application form for the issue of the Residence Permit.
The application form for the Permit to Stay must be requested from the Government Commissariat that also issues the authorization for family reunification. In addition, the foreign national is also required to sign the integration agreement, introduced in 2012, with which he commits to the Italian State to achieving certain objectives of integration into society, using a linguistic, civic, and social pathway, to be pursued during the period of the Permit to Stay.
Mandatory documents for the Residence permit application
The necessary documents to be prepared for the application for a residency permit are as follows:
– Sixteen-euro revenue stamp.
– Photocopy of the passport of family members who have entered with a visa for family reunification.
– Photocopy of the authorization.
– Photocopy of the residence permit of the person requesting reunification.
– Photocopy of the documents proving the family relationship.
– In the case of an over-65 parent, a photocopy of health insurance coverage must also be included.
Sending the kit to authorized post offices
Once you have collected all the documents, you should go to the Post office, where you can send the kit with all the documents, such as
– Payment of the postal bulletin of €30.46 for the Residence Permit.
– Payment of the €30.46 postal bulletin for each child registered on your Residence Permit.
– Payment of €40 if the duration of the Permit applied for is one year or €50 if it is two years.
– Payment of thirty euros for the file.
– Receipt of the kit’s shipping receipt, payment receipt, and the day of the appointment at the Police Headquarters.
Appointment at the Police Headquarters
The foreign national must go to the Police Headquarters on the day indicated to have his fingerprints taken, provide four passport photos, and present, in addition to any other documents requested by the Authorities, the passport and the receipt for the postal kit dispatch.
The Consolidated Text on Immigration provides for approximately twenty days for the issue, renewal, and conversion of the Permit from the date the foreign national applies.
